U10 Program

  • The 10U Spring/Fall Program is for 8 and 9 year old boys and girls.
  • The spring 10U Program runs for eight weeks from April-June and the Fall for ten weeks from August-October. 10U Teams participate weekly training sessions and a 10U Game on Saturdays. Teams are Co-Ed in the spring and gender specific in the fall. There is 1-hour weekly training session on weekdays twice a week. Games in the 10U Program are officiated under FIFA Laws of the Game with approved youth modifications for small sided games and substitution policies. ?
  • The last two weeks of our spring and fall sessions are scheduled for League Playoffs. All 10U Parents are strongly encouraged to support all the players on their child's 10U team by planning their schedule to allow their child to participate and contribute to their team during the League Playoffs.
  • Players are placed on teams of up to 10 players. Teams compete with seven players, one of which is a goalkeeper. Each player plays at least half of every game. Players receive a uniform consisting of a numbered jersey, shorts and socks. Players must wear shin guards and shoes and soccer cleats are recommended.
  • 10U teams requires a parent volunteer for each assignment of Team Coach, Assistant Coach,
  • 10U teams are scheduled for two weekday training sessions per week for the duration of the their season. 10U training session plans and web based skills video provide readily accessible training session direction and content for the 10U Coach. The 10U Coach Course provides a full spectrum approach to the success of the Team Coach and Assistant Coach in providing a quality Sycamore AYSO team experience for every player.
  • Parents open to the experience of the Team Coach and Assistant Coach assignment find a great deal of satisfaction in being prepared to coach and manage the training and competitive environment of their child's team as Sycamore AYSO 10U Team Coach or Assistant Coach. Sycamore AYSO 10U coaches will develop an understanding that competition during match play belongs entirely to the player and the team. Sycamore AYSO 10U coaches discover that the proper and effective role of a successful coach is positive encouragement, relevant instruction, and observation of individual and team behavior during competition in order to determine the content, priorities, and delivery for subsequent team training sessions.
  • Parents who are inclined to the scheduling flexibility of the Regional Referee assignment will find a great deal of satisfaction in contributing to a necessary, but distinct aspect of education for players, coaches, and spectators regarding the Laws of the Game and the enhancement that contribution provides to the enjoyment and development . Referee volunteers can be confident that the Sycamore AYSO zero tolerance policy for public criticism of referee performance in the presence of children along with our AYSO Coach training and their own AYSO Referee training will keep any counterproductive spectator behavior to a short lived minimum in order to maximize the educational and developmental benefit if the Laws of the Game to fully develop in our players and coaches.
  • The 10U Program exemplifies to parents the concept that the game of soccer can be taught to their children through play and that with some basic training and experience all parents are capable of creating and managing training and competitive environments where their child and child's team can thrive in the game motivated by their own enjoyment for as long as their child wishes to participate.
  • AYSO Coaching methodology based on player enjoyment and our AYSO Philosophies of Open Registration, Everyone Plays, and Positive Coaching provide a player development model that consistently recognizes that development can only occur when players participate. This AYSO model stands in stark contrast to other player development models that consider the development or anticipated development of the player short sightedly substantiated by desirable competitive outcomes as a condition of participation.
  • Sycamore AYSO is committed to the AYSO Coaching methodology and Player Development Model because it is in the best interests of the player and provides the broadest opportunity for the children in our community to have an accessible and dependable quality soccer program for children of all ages. Our ability to sustain that opportunity depends on parents of U10 players engaging with our AYSO Coaching methodology as volunteer U10 Team Coaches and Assistant Coaches and evaluating the results based on their experience and the enjoyment of their children.
